Catherine Leblanc editioral from LBW 2011 Conference

I am attending the League of Black Women's 8th Global Strategic Leadership
Conference at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Tampa, Florida. Everything
about this conference has significance - from its location, to its size, to its
theme, to its participants.

The significance? Relative to location, this beautiful property is owned by
Sheila Johnson, co-founder of BET and a major player in several business areas,
including professional sports teams, hospitality, and most recently, aviation -
as in airplane hangers. She shared some of her incredible activities with us on
Wednesday. Anyone who needs inspiration about the power of women to make a
difference in the world needs to read or learn about this woman!

Significance of size? This is a small learning laboratory for 100+ African
American female professionals and students who are having a unique opportunity
to interact, build relationships and participate in the "strategic transfer of
...knowledge and intelligence" - to use a phrase of League President Sandra
Finley. "Small" is definitely better for all of this to occur so being here is
quite a privilege.

The theme of this conference is "BlackWomen2011: New World Power........When
Your World is not Enough" - how appropriate. Why? Because each of us needs to
expand our consciousness to embrace globalization - in whatever form that best
fits our individual circumstances. It is no question that our world has shrunk
and that many of the opportunities of the future will come from beyond our
traditional borders.

The participants at this conference are intellectually curious as well as
friendly and engaging - makes for a very stimulating and fun environment. Kudos
to Sandra Finley for creating an attractive and appealing event!
